Late winter is the perfect time of year to visit the desert. We used the long weekend around President's Day to visit Death Valley National Park.

Day One's highlights include the Eureka Mine, Aguereberry Point, Mosaic Canyon, and the Sand Dunes.

  • Cashier Mill at the Eureka Mine. According to the tourist information: "Built in 1909. Powered by gasoline engines, the mill pulverized the ore, then chemical processes using mercury and cyanide extracted the gold."

  • Aguereberry Point, one of the most beautiful lookout points of the park. Not very easy to get to thanks to a 6-mile gravel road but worth every mile of it.
